Permanent Lip Color Makeup by Sally Hayes

Remember when you were ten and your lips had a beautiful, natural defined vermilion edge? As we age, we lose that definition. When considering permanent makeup lips, keep in mind that it can be as simple as recreating that natural defined line that has faded with age or more color can be added to the lip to make them appear like lipstick has been blotted. Permanent Lip color is perfect for asymmetrical shaped lips, thick lips or lips with uneven vermilion borders. Once permanent lip color has been applied, it eliminates the problem of lipstick “bleeding” into the fine lines around the mouth. Properly placed permanent make-up lips, especially lip color, is a time saving convenience that should enhance the natural features. How nice it would be that wearing additional lipstick would be a choice instead of a necessity.

Following are some of the most commonly asked questions regarding permanent lip color & Permanent Makeup Lips:

  1. How do you choose a lip color?
Ans.: Lip color is determined by the amount of natural pigment in a persons lip combined with the desired color chosen.  Undertones play a big role in choosing colors for permanent make-up lips.

  2. If a client has an abundance of natural “blueness” in their lips, what kind of results can she expect?
Ans.: - To keep the lip color looking natural this client should choose a color that will warm up the “blueness” rather than creating a darker blue tone.  If a person has low lip color, they have more options.

  3. Once my lips are tattooed, can I wear a different color?
Ans.: YES - You can apply any fashion color lipstick you want.

  4. Once my lips have been tattooed a color, can that color be changed?
Ans.: YES - As long as you have not chosen a dark fashion color in the initial application, you can change the color with a simple retouch.

  5. Does it hurt?
Ans.: No - We recommend a dental block.  When the block wears off there is no pain.  Your lips will feel slightly chapped.

  6. How long does it last?
Ans.: After the initial procedure, which includes 2 sessions, you can expect, depending on color chosen, for the color to last 7-10 years.  The lighter the color the shorter the longevity.

  7. Can you make my lips look larger?
Ans.: We do not recommend tattooing outside of the natural vermilion edge.  However, by redefining your natural lip line it will give the illusion of a fuller lip.

  8. Are there any age barriers?
Ans.: No - As we age we tend to lose our natural lip line and by tattooing we can replace what once were there as well as stop lipstick from “bleeding” into the fine lines around the mouth.

  9. Why don’t you recommend just doing lip liner?
Ans.: Most women want to see more color than their own natural lip.  Therefore, if you only apply liner it would look like you had ring around the mouth.  Results are much prettier when the color is blushed through the entire lip.  If you like the look of a two tone lip, that is still possible, a darker color can be used for the liner blushing the center in with a lighter color, these results are very pretty.
